I am trying to figure out how to calculate unit floor area that will exclude area of interior walls.

Schedules can extract the area of the building and each floor.
Generates floor area data for revit schedules and design web format.
Under categories select areas gross building.
On the fields tab add the desired fields to the schedule including the area field.
Select the area type to export.
In the example below you can see that after creating area plan i placed area tag it shows total area including interior walls.
Either ms excel csv or design web format dwf dwfx.
Selects the format in which to export the area calculation data.

On the sorting grouping tab select the grand totals check box.
You can change the boundary specifying the wall center wall core layer or wall core center.
Change the computation height for rooms if a room includes a sloped wall consider adjusting the computation height to produce more accurate results for the room area and volume.
On the formatting tab select the area field and select the calculate totals check box.
